Ronald Koeman says his move to Barcelona could be finalised today but has admitted it’s not the best timing in the world.

The Dutch coach is expected to leave his job with the Netherlands national team and take over from Quique Setien on an initial two-year contract.

Koeman has previously been reluctant to leave his current role but it seems virtually certain now he will be the next Barcelona boss.

“I can’t say much before everything is signed. It is about the details now but it could very well be it will be final today.”

“I didn’t expect things to go so fast, and it is not the best timing. It took me by surprise as well but Barcelona is the only club for which I had a release clause in my contract. It’s ugly for the Dutch FA (KNVB) but not unexpected.”

Barcelona are reportedly negotiating his exit with the Dutch Federation. Koeman has a contract that runs until 2022 and turned down the chance to replace Ernesto Valverde in January.
