Barcelona have been linked with a move for Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek since Ronald Koeman replaced Quique Setien but the 23-year-old’s price tag may put him out of reach.

According to Sport, Ajax want at least €55 million for their Netherlands international and are unlikely to change their minds and lower the price.

Koeman knows Van de Beek well from working with the midfielder at international level, while new technical secretary Ramon Planes is also said to be a fan.

The report reckons Barca considered signing the Dutchman last summer but ended up ruling out a move because they were already overloaded with midfielders.

Yet the same is true this summer too. Barcelona have been tipped to sell Arturo Vidal and Ivan Rakitic but may find it difficult to shift either player in the transfer market.

The club also look to have other priorities. Lautaro Martinez still seems to be their top target, while a defender or two wouldn’t go amiss either.
