Ronald Koeman has reportedly spoken to Jordi Alba about his future at Barcelona amid speculation the left-back could be deemed surplus to requirements.

The new Barcelona boss has told the 31-year-old that he is in his plans for next season but that he wants to to see the “best version” of Alba, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Koeman seems to think Alba can still be an important member of the Barcelona squad, provided he can recapture his best form at the Camp Nou.

Sport are also reporting the talks between Koeman and Alba. They claim Koeman has always been a big fan of Alba, while the left-back has no intention of leaving.

The defender only signed a new five-year contract at the club last year with a buyout clause set at €500m. He is one of several player currently being linked with an exit this summer, but the latest news suggests he is going nowhere.
