Manchester City are reportedly plotting an offer for Lionel Messi that would see him spend three years in the Premier League and then head to New York City FC.
According to ESPN, the Premier League club are also offering “Messi the chance to become an ambassador for the City Football Group.”
All of which sounds really quite unpalatable for a player who has spent the last two decades at the Camp Nou.
Anyway, there’s more. City really want Messi for free but are willing to spend “between €100 and €150 million” if they do have to pay a fee. They might even throw Eric Garcia or Angelino into the deal if Barcelona are lucky.
It’s still not clear yet if Messi can go for free or if the clause in his contract has expired, but it does seem that both parties are going to do their best to avoid a legal battle which has the potential to get really ugly.
The report adds that Pep Guardiola has already spoken to Messi, while any fee Bacelona get for the Argentine would be reinvested into Ronald Koeman’s squad.
