The current Lionel Messi crisis that is engulfing Barcelona at present could have repercussions when it comes to the Catalan giants’ transfer plans.
According to the Corriere dello Sport, top target Lautaro Martinez could be put off a move to the Camp Nou because of the uncertainty surrounding Messi’s future.
Rumors about a move for the 23-year-old have gone quiet lately, and the report reckons Inter are going to try and take advantage by extending Martinez’s contract.
Club president Josep Maria Bartomeu has already admitted talks for the have striker stalled, but there’s no sign they have resumed and Barca still need to sell before they can buy.
The report notes that playing alongside Messi was one of the big reasons for Martinez wanting to join Barcelona but if the captain is no longer going to be around, or just possibly for one season, it could have an impact on the Inter man’s future plans.
Martinez is currently contracted to Inter until 2023, but recent reports in Italy have suggested Inter are willing to offer a two-year extension that will double his salary.
