Barcelona’s pursuit of David Alaba takes a hit

Barcelona’s long rumored interest of David Alaba isn’t really a secret. The La Liga runners-up (still stings) have been linked to Alaba just about every summer for the last few years.

That interest has led to Alaba eventually staying at Bayern Munich each year. The rumors have only benefited Alaba, each time Bayern reassuring him of his place at the club.

This time around, Bild are reporting that Bayern have agreed to discuss a new contract with Alaba after the Champions League concludes. His current deal ends next summer so the importance of getting a new deal done can’t be understated.

It looks like the only chance of Alaba moving to Barcelona is if somehow Bayern mess the contract talks up. However, if anyone is good for keeping long-time players happy at the club, it’s Bayern Munich.
