Could a January loan be on the cards

Riqui Puig’s situation at Barcelona has not gone unnoticed in Italy where Jose Mourinho has reportedly taken an interest in the youngster.

The midfielder has only managed four substitute appearances so far in 2021-22 and that situation looks unlikely to change while Ronald Koeman is in charge.

According to Diario Sport, Mourinho is thinking about trying to bring Puig to Roma in a bid to strengthen his title-chasing team.

Puig has so far shown no interest in leaving the Camp Nou to try his luck elsewhere or even go out on loan to try and get some regular playing time.

It’s not clear if he could be tempted in the next transfer window, although it can’t be ruled out given he seems to have slipped even further down the pecking order this season.

The emergence of Gavi and Nico Gonzalez has spelt bad news for the 22-year-old and means he’s only managed 73 minutes of action this season.

Of course that could all change if Barcelona lose patience with Koeman, but if the Dutchman remains in charge you can probably expect more rumors about a Puig move as the January window approaches.
