Sergi Roberto’s agent admits that there’s still no sign of any contract talks taking place with Barcelona after negotiations over a new deal were put on hold.
Barcelona have announced new deals for Ansu Fati and Pedri this season and are thought to be working on extensions for Ronald Araujo, Gavi, and Ousmane Dembele.
Meanwhile, talks with Roberto are yet to recommence even though Roberto’s agent, Josep Maria Orobitg, says the 29-year-old wants to stay and is willing to help out financially.
“We are waiting for Barça, who already know our approach and the player’s will to adapt to the club’s economic circumstances,” he told Mundo Deportivo.
Roberto’s contract expires at the end of the season and president Joan Laporta has previously insisted the deal was pretty much done.
Laporta said after Luuk de Jong’s unveiling back in September that a new deal for Roberto was almost finalized.
“With Sergi Roberto it’s all coming along well, it’s agreed, and just needs to be signed. In principle it’s done,” he said. “They just have to sign the final documents. The same as the other captains, Sergi has made a gesture to support the club.”
The president sent a similar message when he spoke about Roberto last month. He said, “He showed his true Barcelona spirit by agreeing to a pay cut, we are restructuring his contract, and we just need to tie up a few loose ends.”
