One thing has been certain in Ronald Koeman’s Barcelona. If you’re a youth player who’s proven themselves at the top level, you’re going to get playing time regardless of the more senior player who may be competing for pitch time.
Early on, it seemed like Konrad de la Fuente may be one of those youth players who gained a footing in the senior team. The Barcelona B player now seems like he could be on his way out of the club at the end of the year for some consistent senior team time elsewhere.
He’s been called up 22 times to the senior team but has yet to earn the trust of the boss. This probably means we’ll be watching Konrad elsewhere next year. Which isn’t a bad thing. As an American myself, I’d like to see the young USMNT winger develop in a senior-team squad somewhere.
