Manchester City have reportedly expressed an interest in signing Barcelona’s Sergi Roberto in the summer transfer window.

The 29-year-old’s future at Barcelona is in doubt and it’s thought he could be sold after a tough 2020-21 season at the Camp Nou.

Roberto missed chunks of the season through injury, he also tested positive for Covid-19 and struggled badly for form when he did return.

Yet none of that seems to have put off Manchester City who tried to land Roberto last summer and could try again this year too, according to Sport.

The report claims Pep Guardiola thinks Roberto “would be a useful addition to his squad” and “values his professionalism, attitude and work rate.”

Roberto would rather stay but is out of contract next year and Barca would quite like to get his hefty salary off the wage bill.

Barca are also expected to bring in Emerson Royal from Real Betis, who will compete with Sergino Dest for the right-back slot, meaning Roberto seems very much surplus to requirements.
