Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi has claimed that Barcelona “always wanted” to bring Neymar back tot he Camp Nou but reckons the Brazilian didn’t want to go.
Rumors of a Barca return for Neymar have attracted plenty of headlines almost ever since he moved to the French capital and returned again this summer.
Neymar ended up signing a new deal until 2025 with PSG, and Al-Khelaïfi reckons the former Barca star didn’t need much convincing.
“Barcelona always wanted to bring Neymar back, that is no secret. But did Neymar want to go? No. It is true that at that time, his adaptation to Paris & France was still incomplete,” he said.
“It was not hard to find an agreement with Neymar. If it took so long, it was because of the health crisis. I never had any doubts. Even if the club you mention [Barça ] tried to recruit Neymar to the end. Obviously, we declined.”
PSG have also been linked with a move for Barca captain Lionel Messi and Al-Khelaïfi also spoke about his club’s reported interest in the Argenitna international.
“I told the president of Barça: Messi is at the end of his contract, all clubs have the right to discuss with. What I can say is that all the great players want to come. To make things clear I’m not saying that to respond to Messi.”
