The Barcelona board reportedly learned their lesson from last year and don’t wish to sell Antoine Griezmann to Atletico Madrid. Turns out selling one great striker to your arch-rival was enough and Barcelona don’t want to make champions Atletico even stronger heading into the domestic season.

Griezmann leaving Barcelona seems to be a vital part of the club’s ability to resign Lionel Messi. Atletico aren’t able to pay a load of money for him as well so players would need to return in the deal, and Barca reportedly aren’t keen on any current Atleti players despite rumors of a swap deal involving Saul Niguez.

Barcelona will likely continue to work to sell Griezmann to a Serie A or Premier League club so that “they would only face the player in Champions League fixture.” Griezmann is said to prefer a move back to the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium but it’s still unclear where he’ll end up if he does go.
