Despite the weeks of roundabouts, we arrive yet again at a place where Barcelona are reportedly interested in Saúl Ñiguez. The Atlético Madrid midfielder has been the focus of transfer rumors all summer and Barça became involved once they realized he was the best they could do with regards to an Antoine Griezmann transfer.

The difficulties of registering your new signings and re-signing Lionel Messi have been a thorn in Barcelona’s side this summer. Selling Griezmann has been a focus for the Blaugrana once they realized no one wanted anyone else on their team.

Atlético reportedly came knocking in recent weeks and saw a chance to snatch their old star at a fraction of the cost in a swap deal that infamously flamed out as the two teams couldn’t reach an agreement.

But if they do manage to sell Griezmann somewhere else, which is still a possibility, Barça remain keen on bringing Saúl to the Camp Nou. With Georginio Wijnaldum going to PSG, Ronald Koeman still wants a high-profile midfielder in the ranks and Saúl is a priority if that happens.
