River Plate starlet Claudio Echeverri has offered an update on his future amid interest from Barcelona.
Xavi has already admitted he’s fan of the youngster who has also said he would like to play for Barcelona.
The Catalan giants have now been offered hope they could land Echeverri as he says he’s not planning on signing a new contract when his current deal expires in 2024.
“My representative spoke with the president. Many things were discussed. It was said that he did not answer the calls, but they were always in contact,” he told ESPN.
“I am not going to renew, but I am going to stay six months or a year to enjoy myself Later, we will see.”
The news is likely to be welcomed at Barcelona who have made a habit of signing players on free transfers in recent windows due to the club’s ongoing difficult financial situation.
Echeverri’s contract at River Plate expires in December 2024. His current release clause is set at 25 million euros.
