We’re just a couple of weeks into July, and it’s already been a long month for Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi. Not only has the Qatari businessman had to deal with the suspension and subsequent resignation of his Director of Football Leonardo, but he’s also had to contend with the press, who seem intent on asking him a million and one questions about the future of his captain Thiago Silva. Of course, that comes with the territory, especially when you’re attempting to position yourself among the footballing elite, but it must be pretty tiring nonetheless.
Reiterating for what feels like the thousandth time, Al-Khelaifi again told the press that Thiago Silva will remain a PSG player for the foreseeable future – at the unveiling of his latest big-money signing Edinson Cavani. Will the press listen? Will Barcelona listen? Well, that’s highly debatable – and for that, one might feel a smidgen of sympathy for the former Qatari tennis player.
That is, until Al-Khelaifi went one step further; not only is Thiago Silva not for sale, but it turns out that Paris Saint-Germain are coincidentally following some Barcelona players!
Whether this is meant to intimidate the Blaugrana remains to be seen, but from a distance, it sure looks like a petty response on Al-Khelaifi’s part. Perhaps he’s just frustrated because his captain actually wants to leave for the Camp Nou? Maybe he’s annoyed because his club cannot attract anyone of note from La Liga, or even the Bundesliga/Premier League – you know, all the leagues that are better than the Serie A? Or is he genuinely deluded, and thinks that he has a real chance at signing any of our players?
