Recap of Barcelona strong showing in their preseason friendly in Finland in which the Catalan side scored six goals.

Led by a Munir El Haddadi brace Barcelona cruised in their fourth preseason friendly game in Finland against HJK Helsinki. In a well-rounded performance Barça scored six goals, two by the aforementioned Munir, and one apiece from Sergi Roberto, Gerard Pique, Marc Bartra and Sandro Ramirez. The hosts were unable to crack the Barcelona defense and Jordi Masip in goal.

In his fourth preseason game at the helm of FC Barcelona Luis Enrique fielded his first (and hopefully not the last) La Masia starting XI. In goal there was recent Barça B graduate Masip, and in front of him the back four consisted of Martin Montoya, Pique, Bartra and Jordi Alba. The midfield trio was led by Barcelona vice-captain Andres Iniesta with Sergio Busquets and Roberto at his side. The three forwards were Pedro, Rafinha and newest La Masia star, Munir. The lineup was very similar to the one against Napoli from three days ago as Claudio Bravo and Ivan Rakitić were the only two removed from the starting lineup.

Barcelona started the game from midfield and, as expected, immediately dominated the ball. Barça quickly started buzzing around the hosts' net and less than five minutes into the game Munir put Barcelona in the lead. Iniesta placed a brilliant over the top ball straight to the youngster who left-footed it just inside of the far post of the goalkeeper Michael Tørnes.

Five minutes later Munir was once again in the thick of it as he picked up an assist on Sergi Roberto's goal that made it 2-0. Iniesta squared the ball to Roberto who played a lovely one-two with Munir and the Barcelona midfielder made no mistake as he slotted the ball into the back of the net.

The hosts occasionally made runs into the Barcelona half, but they didn't really manage to get close to Masip as the Barcelona defense maintained concentration and handed these situations very well.

Barcelona, on the other hand, scored again in the 16th minute with Munir picking up his second of the contest. The play developed on the right side of the pitch with Montoya playing the ball to Rafinha who was in space and sent a perfect cross into the penalty area where Munir rose the highest and headed the ball off the near post and over the goal-line.

Another six minutes later Barça scored their fourth of the game and Rafinha was once again the main provider, though this time he wasn't credited with the assist. The former Celta man made a brilliant run near the goal-line into the penalty box and found Munir in the middle, but his shot was blocked. The rebound fell nicely to Pedro who squared it to Pique on the left side and the center-back had an easy job to score from his position.

The opposition in this game might not have been to Barcelona's standards, but after scoring only two goals in the first three games, 270 minutes, the goal scoring potential of this team was in full display with four goals in 24 minutes.

Barcelona continued with the full-pitch pressing despite the four-goal lead and shortly after the half-hour mark first Pedro and then Rafinha came very close to extending Barça's lead. Both shots went wide of the goalkeeper's right crossbar, but Pedro missed from near the penalty spot while Rafinha fired his attempt from 25 yards out.

The pressure toward the HJK net continued until the halftime whistle, but as Barcelona were unable to add to the lead the score remained 4-0 in favor of Barcelona.

During halftime Barcelona made two substitutions, replacing Iniesta and Pique, both of whom largely impressed, with Rakitić and Edgar Ie. The first sub especially proved to be a very good one by Lucho as Rakitić assisted on Marc Bartra's goal just over four minutes after the restart. Montoya won a free kick near the right sideline, about 35 yards from the goal and Rakitić crossed the ball into the penalty area where Bartra won the aerial duel and headed the ball just inside of the post to complete the manita.

Rakitić almost got on the goal-scorers list himself five minutes later, but his 20-yard shot was well saved by HJK's substitute goalkeeper. Another five minutes later, at the one-hour mark, Enrique completed five substitutions. Sergi Samper, Alex Grimaldo, Gerard Deulofeu, Alen Halilović and Sandro were all subbed on as Alba, Busquets, Roberto, Rafinha and Munir were taken off.

The pace of the game slowed after Barcelona's fifth goal, but Barcelona still pressed high up the pitch when HJK were in possession, which was not often as Barcelona continued to dominate possession. But HJK occasionally still managed to launch a good attack and in the 75th minute Masip came up with a very strong save after a good looking attack down Barcelona's left side.

But Barcelona were not done scoring as in the 83rd minute Rakitić once against showed his playmaking skills, picking up his second assist in the half. This time it was from open play as he found Sandro in space on the right side of the penalty box and the Barcelona B player fired a bullet past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

Sandro's mark proved to be the last goal of the match as Barcelona for the first time under Lucho won in convincing fashion. Only one game is left for the Catalan side before the La Liga season begins, the Gamper Trophy game on 18 August. Yes, competitive football is just around the corner.

A chance to predict the score of this afternoon's preseason friendly clash with HJK Helsinki at the Olympic Stadium in Finland

Following the disappointment of Wednesday's 0-1 defeat against SSC Napoli, FC Barcelona will be looking to get their preseason campaign back on track this afternoon as they take on HJK Helsinki at the Olympic Stadium in Finland. Despite returning to training at the start of last week, the Blaugrana will still be without star striker, Lionel Messi and his Argentine international teammate, Javier Mascherano, while Brazil stars Dani Alves and Neymar continue to miss out through injury.

However, in spite of the relatively inexperienced squad, Luis Enrique's side remain heavy favourites to pick up the win against a HJK side that crashed out of the UEFA Champions League this week in the third qualifying round against Cypriot champions APOEL Nicosia. The only advantage HJK may have over their illustrious opponents is match fitness; the Finnish champions are deep into their latest league campaign and therefore may be better prepared for the 90 minutes tonight.

On the other hand, with just two friendlies remaining prior to the start of the La Liga season, the Blaugrana will ideally be hoping to compete throughout the 90 minutes once again, although if the Napoli match is any indication, we are a little way off from that just yet. Will this young squad peppered with new signings and experienced heads be able to emerge victorious on enemy soil? Or will HJK pull off a shock result and either hold or defeat the mighty FC Barcelona?

Predict the score of tonight's match by commenting with your prediction below. Best of luck!

A preview of FC Barcelona's latest preseason friendly, an exhibition clash with Finnish champions HJK Helsinki at the Olympic Stadium in Finland

FC Barcelona will be looking to rebound from their disappointing 0-1 defeat against SSC Napoli tomorrow when they travel to Finland to take on HJK Helsinki at the Olympic Stadium. Despite dominating proceedings in Geneva against Rafa Benitez’ UEFA Champions League qualifiers, the Blaugrana couldn’t convert their possession into goals and an error from Claudio Bravo gifted the Partenopei a win and now Luis Enrique will be hoping his side can get back on track against the reigning Finnish champions.

While Barça are travelling to Helsinki without a whole host of first team players, including Lionel Messi who returned to training earlier this week, they remain heavy favourites to pick up the win and rightly so. As previously mentioned, a similar squad went toe-to-toe against Napoli and on balance, should have won. A similar display tomorrow will surely prove too much for HJK to contend with – irrespective of Barça’s inexperienced bench or HJK’s home advantage.

TEAM NEWS

BARCELONA

We brought you squad news earlier tonight, as Luis Enrique elected to leave Lionel Messi, Javier Mascherano, Neymar and Dani Alves at home, while Jeremy Mathieu and Xavi continue their recoveries from injury in Catalunya. As a consequence, Enrique has been forced to call up six players from the B team including the exciting Alen Halilovic and Munir el Haddadi, who started the 0-1 loss against Napoli on Wednesday.

Following his error against the Partenopei, Claudio Bravo is expected to lose his spot in goal, if not permanently, then certainly on a temporary basis, and having already seen Marc-André ter Stegen, it’s entirely possible that Lucho will start Jordi Masip for the second time this preseason. While he wasn’t spectacular, Masip looked solid in his time on the field against Recreativo de Huelva, and is the only Barça goalkeeper yet to concede this preseason.

Will that be enough to earn him a starting berth tomorrow? Maybe, but probably not – most media outlets have MAtS as the starter, and it’s difficult to argue against that decision.

In defense, there’s a possibility that we will see a little more rotation given the calibre of the opposition; while Martin Montoya almost has to start at right-back with both Dani Alves and Adriano Correia not making the trip to Helsinki, there is a slim chance that Lucho might debut a three-man backline. With only three natural central defenders in the squad, it’d be an interesting choice, but why not gamble in pre-season? We can always switch back to a four-man defense in the second half...

However, if we take the obvious route and assume the usual 4-3-3, we can expect Montoya to be paired with Marc Bartra, Gerard Piqué and Jordi Alba, although again, I would suggest a change – Alejandro Grimaldo for Jordi Alba. Not that there is much logic or reasoning behind that suggestion, other than I’m a big Grimaldo fan and want to see him play with some of the "big guns".

Equally, is it too much to ask to see Ivan Rakitić and Alen Halilovic, a.k.a. the Croatian Connection (is it too late to trademark this nickname?), start together in the Blaugrana midfield? Certainly, it’s a midfield we may see one day in the future, so why not give us a glimpse now, eh Lucho? Again, back to reality...expect to see Sergio Busquets at pivote, with a midfield duo selected from the trio of Sergi Roberto, Andrés Iniesta and Ivan Rakitić. As an experiment with the lesser La Liga teams in mind, it would also be interesting to see Rakitić partnered with Roberto to see to what degree that particular combination could work in a competitive context. Then again, Andrés Iniesta is the captain, so he’ll probably start instead.

Moving forward to the attack, this is a little dull – we all know that Pedro is going to start, and that Luis Enrique apparently doesn’t like Gerard Deulofeu, or whatever rumour is doing the rounds on Twitter/Marca/AS. Rafinha is apparently the only player capable of playing false nine in Messi’s absence. On a related note, maybe we signed Luis Suarez to stop Culés from bludgeoning themselves to death at the prospect of another "Fàbregas at false nine"-esque scenario? Not that I mean to belittle Rafinha’s performances this preseason, rather an observation that his best moments have come from a deeper, more orthodox role as a "10" or a simple midfielder.

Anyway, I digress...Rafinha will start at false nine, even though it would make far more sense to play Sandro, and anyone-but-Deulofeu will start in the final attacking berth. Or maybe Deulofeu will start after all, because Lucho probably doesn’t hate him despite the adamance of Twitter/Marca/AS? No-one knows for sure, and that’s part of the fun!

HJK

While the rest of the Finnish league is preparing for their equivalent of Jornada 23, HJK have a few days off so that they can play a money-spinning friendly against FC Barcelona. Given that they’ve won the last four Veikkausliiga titles and are currently seven points clear in the current campaign, it seems a little unfair that the rich are allowed to get richer in the middle of the season, but as a Barcelona fan, I probably shouldn’t complain too much...

HJK might be coasting to another league title, but they may well enter tomorrow’s match on a downer, after falling at latest hurdle in their eternal battle to qualify for the UEFA Champions League group stage for only the second time in their history. Following a 2-2 draw in the first-leg of their clash with Cypriot champions, APOEL Nicosia, HJK were certainly up against it in their trip to Cyprus on Wednesday, but they will still be disappointed in the manner of their defeat. Unlike APOEL, HJK couldn’t muster a goal on their travels and therefore crashed out of the competition 4-2 on aggregate following a comfortable 2-0 win for Giorgios Dinos’ side.

While HJK are back in league action on Wednesday, they will be playing lowly Inter Turku who are without a win in five matches. Oh, and did I mention that they are seven points clear, so it doesn’t really matter anyway? As a result, expect to see a HJK side littered with their biggest stars, including former Premier League striker, Mikael Forssell, former Tottenham Hotspur and New York Red Bull midfielder Teemu Tainio and another former MLS striker for all you American soccer acolytes out there, Macoumba Kandji.

FORM GUIDE

Barcelona: WDL

HJK: WWDDWL

LAST MEETING

N/A

LIKELY LINE-UPS

Barcelona (4-3-3): MAtS; Montoya, Piqué, Bartra, Alba; Busquets, Iniesta, Rakitić; Pedro, Rafinha, Deulofeu

HJK (4-3-2-1): Tornes; Lampi, Moren, Heikkila, Baah; Heikkinen, Tainio, Vayrynen; Savage, Kandji, Mannstrom

MATCH PREDICTION

I expect HJK to come out with a trivote, as if will ultimately make a lot of difference given the gulf in class between the two sides – this will either be closer than expected or an easy win, and as I got some stick for a cautious (and correct) prediction last time out, I'm going for a comfortable Manita win for Lucho’s boys.

The final friendly for FC Barcelona before the Joan Gamper Trophy is upon us. Barcelona have already made the trip to beautiful Helsinki, the capital of Finland, where they'll take on HJK Helsinki on Saturday. And Barça coach Luis Enrique has already selected which players are going with him to the match.

Lucho has chosen 20 players, 6 of them from Barça B, to form the squad for the friendly. For this match, the Catalans still are not going to have the four final World Cup internationals who joined the squad this week - Messi, Mascherano, Alves and Neymar. Xavi Hernández and Jeremy Mathieu will also stay in Barcelona city to complete their rehab routines. They were allowed to play, but Enrique decided to have them rest and be ready for the Gamper match.

These are the 20 men that went to Finland:

Ter Stegen, Claudio Bravo, Jordi Masip, Martín Montoya, Marc Bartra, Gerard Piqué, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, Andrés Iniesta, Sergi Roberto, Ivan Rakitic, Rafinha, Deulofeu, Pedro, Edgar Ié, Grimaldo, Samper, Halilovic, Munir and Sandro.

Barça's squad has already landed in Helsinki. They'll now get some rest and sleep. They face HJK at 16:00 CET. As soon as the game ends, they head back home.
